Vertical file cabinets are the most effective way to keep your files in order and ensure that your files are safe. And because they are vertical, they save space. If you have a great deal of documents and files to store, there are some models that can have up to five drawers to utilize. If you only have a few, there are two and even one drawer file cabinets on the market that will more than fit your needs.
When most think of filing cabinets in general, they automatically think about the vertical style. And why not? It's the only real viable style for a home work space or a commercial office to store their files without having to have to dig through thousands of other papers. Not all of them are made equal, though, and not every style is right for everyone. There are more secure models, lighter models, and even mobile models. It is up to you to determine what you need for your work area.
Secure models can have detailed lock systems or even be 100 percent fire proof. These are good if you are worried about the security of your important documents, or if you just want to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry. These are mostly for commercial usage, especially the fire proof units. Fire proof vertical units can weigh upwards of 700 lb so they really are not viable for home usage.
A lighter model would be made of thin steel, which would be good if you are looking on a budget. Steel vertical file cabinets tend to be the most common in office areas, and they come in any drawer amount you can think of. The downside to these is that they can get dented fairly easily, but damage happens to all office furniture at one point or another.
Mobile models are usually steel ones on wheels. They are relatively light and come equipped with full 360 degree spinning wheels to push from one office to the other with ease. These are great if you switch work areas often or have to transfer files from one area to the next, but they are not as tall as other types of filing cabinets due to risk of tipping over. There are also some units on the market which have a handle, but that is not standard and must be actively searched for.
Any office needs vertical file cabinets, there is no real debate or contest over this. The digital age is upon us, but not everything can be kept on the computer. As long as businesses and offices keep working with large amounts of paper, they will still need file cabinets.
